Ricky the Rooster
In June 2019, my very good friends, Allen and Beth, gave us two glorious young chicks. These birds were Blue-Laced Red Wyandottes, which aren't all that common. Allen's brother John had hatched and raised them, at Allen and Beth's request, for the purpose of giving them to us. They were sweet little girls, and since they had these spectacular red colors, we named them Lucy and Ethyl, after characters on I Love Lucy.

Things were going great, but in a month or two, Ethyl started learning to crow. Well, as hens don't crow, we knew that we had a young rooster, so Ethyl had to become Ricky, after Ricky Ricardo from the same classic show.

Although we had not wanted another rooster, Ricky has turned out to be an excellent rooster and pet. He protects his flock at all times, and spends his days on high alert for anything and everything. He is a big boy, weighing about 12 pounds. Fortunately, he is friendly to people, and his silliness makes everyone who sees him laugh. - Bro Ray
